Frequently Asked AC/Heating Questions

What do good central air units have in common and how long do they last?

The best ones are efficient and provide steady, dependable performance year after year with proper maintenance. They operate on minimal electricity to keep utility bills low.

With regular maintenance an air conditioning unit should last 12-15 years and a gas furnace as many as 20-25 years.

Is my unit the right size?

A good contractor will determine the best size for your home taking into consideration window dimensions, climate, floor space, insulation, heat generating appliances, the direction your home faces and the exterior of your home shaded by trees.

When should I replace my existing heating or air conditioning system?

If your system is more than 10 years old it may not be operating at an energy efficient level and may start needing repairs.

Replacing your system with a newer more energy efficient unit can lower your utility bills and avoid costly repairs.
